A day at the cape
The day starts early at the Cape of La Huerta, as the sun begins to light up the coves and rocks with a golden glow. While the air is still cool, the landscape seems to come alive. The Mediterranean stretches out crystal clear as far as the eye can see. From any point, you can spot the distant skyline of Alicante and, further still, the Cape of Santa Pola closing off the Bay of Alicante. It’s the perfect way to disconnect from urban noise and immerse yourself in the serenity of nature.
By mid-morning, the coves become the ideal place to enjoy the warm, transparent waters. With good water shoes, there’s no corner you can’t reach, and the variety of activities is impressive: snorkeling, diving, kayaking, or paddleboarding. Putting on your goggles reveals an underwater world full of life and color. Common two-banded sea bream (Diplodus vulgaris), sharpsnout seabream (Diplodus puntazzo), salema (Sarpa salpa), and vibrant ornate wrasse (Thalassoma pavo) seem to accompany you as you explore. You might even spot an octopus hiding among the rocks if you’re lucky enough to catch it before it blends completely into its surroundings.

As the day progresses, the sea presents challenges for the more adventurous. Expert swimmers take on the task of reaching the buoys, even in choppy waters, while further out, jet skis and the occasional sailboat can be seen cutting across the waves. Meanwhile, on the shoreline, tidal pools trapped among the rocks create microcosms of their own. Agile crabs and tiny transparent shrimp move about, completing a scene filled with small details that fascinate anyone who takes the time to observe.
The afternoon is the perfect time to explore on land. Trails winding through the Cape’s hills offer spectacular views of the Mediterranean. A walk to the lighthouse at the easternmost point is a must. From the summits, you can gaze at the horizon and feel the sea breeze, as the sun begins to set and the sky fills with shades of orange and pink.

Before night falls, one last swim in the Cape’s crystal-clear waters is the perfect farewell to its natural beauty. You might even find a “treasure” on the seabed: diving goggles, hair ties, or perhaps something more valuable, like a ring forgotten by a visitor. Amateur divers with metal detectors are also often seen searching for finds in this unique setting.
Night arrives, but the Cape never loses its magic. The gentle sound of waves lapping against the rocks accompanies you on your way home, leaving you with a sense of peace and fulfillment. A day at the Cape of La Huerta is more than just a day; it’s an unforgettable experience and a reminder of the profound connection we can share with nature’s beauty.
